INNOCENT & BLUE

Where are you in time and space, I wonder?

When will we be back home together?

When you say never, does it mean forever?

When will we be on time together?

So innocent and blue

The way it came to you

From far away on winding roads

Led right back to me

The truth rang so bittersweet

Hiding away from the heat

Clouds came down

And it dawned on me

I guess you find this is quite amusing

Trying to decipher these signs of confusion

I will survive the silent spring[1] of surrender

Maybe I’ll see you again in December, or whenever…

So innocent and blue

The way it came to you

From far away on winding roads

Led right back to me

The truth rang so bittersweet

Hiding away from the heat

Clouds came down

And it dawned on me

If you cannot find a simple way

To say [that] love has gone astray

You could always run

Forget your pride

Pretend [that] you’ll be fine some day

Or take this opportunity

Learn a thing or two ‘bout life

With subtle grace

Face to face

So innocent and blue

The way it came to you

From far away on winding roads

Led right back to me

The truth rang so bittersweet

Hiding away from the heat

Clouds came down

And it dawned on me
